Fortune’s Well (3 book series)

Where did I find it: I won it from Chantelle Atkins.
What I liked: that each of the authors wrote one of the main characters, and it was seamless. I couldn’t tell who wrote what, which is as it should be. Because I won it, I hadn’t read the description, so didn’t know what it was about. Following the authors on Facebook, Chantelle, and Sim Alec Sansford was enough to sell it to me. With two engaging teenagers main characters, the story unfolded normally before a scary dark, twist happened. I love the unexpected.
What I didn’t like: the bullying. JJ, the main character is bullied by boys at school. Picking on someone because they are different is a vile thing to do. In this story, it was handled well, and yes, sometimes revenge does give a sense of relief. However, I knew there was something more going on, and there was. What a page-turner!
Overall: I loved it. The story is really well put together and it makes a change for me as a reader to become a teenager again, where we don’t understand adults. Neither do they understand the teenagers. The parents are so wrapped up in their own lives, they don’t see what’s happening with their children. This young adult novel will be enjoyed by everyone who enjoys dark, mysterious, stories.

Where did I find it: it’s the second book of the Fortunes’s Well series. That’s the name of the town the book is set in.
What I liked: that the two main characters had mysterious powers that would help them fight the bad guys. The fact we didn’t know who they were was terrifying for JJ and Darcie, and intriguing for me as the reader.
What I didn’t like: that the lady from child services removed JJ from his home and placed him in foster care. The new parents didn’t treat him well. They weren’t cruel, just indifferent. That was sad, although crucial for the story.
Overall: again, I loved it. The twist of the ghost from the past mentioned in the description was clever. JJ being held against his will, and the emergence of his true powers made this story fascinating and captivating. This is a superb series with splendid characters. I’m thrilled to hear a third book is coming soon.

Where did I find it: I won the first book from the author, and after reading it, went straight onto the second. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the publication of this third instalment.
What I liked: the well loved characters. It was like putting on a familiar and comfortable jumper. I really enjoyed being around them again. JJ Carson and Darcie are such great people, and this story perfectly takes you into their world once more. There is such a lot to enjoy as the teenagers deal with different situations. They have super powers which they are honing and perfecting. There is also a new character whose power is something very different. I loved the gradual building of tension that led up to the ending, and wow, what an explosive finish!
What I didn’t like: there was nothing that I didn’t like, except for the end where I was left wondering. It’s not a cliff hanger as such. Everything is resolved, but there is this question mark. Could there be another book? I hope so.
Overall: the trilogy is vastly enjoyable. It’s a young adult story, but what a punch! It can be thoroughly enjoyed by all ages. There is no sex, drugs, or roll n roll, just a powerfully engaging, and darkly entertaining storyline. I would recommend it to everyone who enjoys reading.
