I love gingerbread whether in cake or biscuit form. Although I enjoy baking, I haven’t tried to make either one yet.

Gingerbread men – the biscuit variety is often associated with Christmas. They usually have a red ribbon around their neck, but are generally are available all year round.

The term gingerbread goes back to Medieval England and just meant anything that contained preserved ginger. It wasn’t until the 15th century that it was applied to desserts. Now it is broadly used to describe any sweet treat that combines ginger. What is your favourite?

Some years ago I cross-stitched the recipe for my daughter as a Christmas present. It was really fun to do.
