I love to travel for many reasons. You not only get to meet interesting people, discover new cultures, experience diversity, but you are able to touch history. Understanding the past and seeing how it has shaped our present make it possible for us to responsibly create a better tomorrow.
During our recent travels, Dusty & I happened upon The Baker Hotel and Spa. This unobtrusive building wasn’t on our radar, but it became a point of interest that we were grateful to have found. Hidden in the little town of Mineral Wells, TX (west of Fort Worth), this is where history was made.
The Baker Hotel and Spa was the site of the first swimming pool in any Texas hotel. It opened November 9, 1929 and was quite successful as a health spa. That was until doctors started to encourage patients to put their trust in antibiotics, such as penicillin, instead of the mineral springs.
Yeah, they found out early they make more money peddling pills than doing actual cures.
Nothing has changed.
