Yoga has always fascinated me. The word itself means “yoke” or “Union,” and it truly is a harmony of the mind, body, and soul. I am still a novice, but my practice has brought me great balance. As someone with mental disorders (depression, anxiety, and OCD), this is fundamental for helping me to retaining a calm, mindful, and present state of being.
There are many benefits that yoga offers. It can lower blood pressure, help with insomnia, increase flexibility, build strength, improve circulation and cardio health – Yoga offers many physical benefits as well as mental and spiritual ones.
Today, June 21st, we celebrate International Day of Yoga. This day is significant because the summer solstice is thought to be the beginning of yoga, which originated from Shiva and was brought to people by the Saptarishis. With this global observance on hand, I encourage you to explore what Yoga is and how it might impact your life in a positive and meaningful way.
