I have always loved Garfield. Jim Davis‘ creation was my go-to comic whenever the newspaper arrived, and, of course, I had a stuffed Garfield in the window of my car as a teen. I had the nightgowns, slippers, etc. – obsessed!
It was more than just my love for cats that drew me to Garfield. I loved his sass. He tried to be independent and oh-so-cool, but really, he was just a simple feline, who loved his family & friends, food, and naps. It made me feel like it was okay just to be who I was.
You know I am celebrating National Garfield The Cat Day. It is important to me because for many reasons (i.e. nostalgia, cat lady, etc.), but particularly as a writer. Did you know that Garfield holds the Guinness World Record as the most syndicated comic strip? First published on June 19, 1978, this grumpy little feline continues to entertain us.
I’ve always loved Garfield! A longtime friend even sent me a set of salt and pepper shakers that are Garfield and Odie. 🙂
