International Children’s Book Day is celebrated on April 2nd each year as it is the birthday of Hans Christian Anderson, the famous Danish children’s author. Interesting fact about me is that my grandfather came from Copenhagen, Denmark and was named after Hans… Now, I am a YA/Children’s writer. Add my passion for literacy and you can see why this holiday spoke to me.
The idea of International Children’s Book Day is to encourage kids to read. No… not just to read – to LOVE reading!
I remember watching my mom devour books. I admire her ability to absorb novel after novel. I struggled to become a silent reader, whispering the words in a verbal performance that drove the people around me crazy until I was expelled from the room. Undeterred, I practiced the skill and eventually mastered the art of not only reading silently, but of content editing and becoming a professional writer and publisher (both Sahara and I are of Danish descent, which is why Norns Triad has such a strong Viking theme). If I could do even the smallest thing to impassion another kids that way, I would feel like I achieve the highest goal attainable.
Therefore, in honor of this holiday, I am giving away my middle grade chapter book, FELINE FASCINATIONS: The Adventures of Boris and Olga from April 1st through April 3rd, 2022 via http://geni.us/FELINE_FASCINATIONS.
