Hobbit Day doesn’t just occur during Tolkien Week (Sept 20th through the 26th), but it is also the shared birthday of Bilbo and Frodo Baggins – September 22 (1290 and 1368 respectively in Shire-Reckoning).
Hobbit Day and Tolkien Week were begun in 1978 by the American Tolkien Society.
